What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Government Affairs position at The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association?
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Lead all government relations efforts for the 8th largest Home Builders Association (HBA) in the country and largest in Georgia. Responsible for coordinating and administering a robust and effective advocacy program on behalf of the more than 1,150 company members of the HBA across 10 counties in the Atlanta metro area. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining and growing the HBA’s political affairs program.
Qualifications/Requirements.
- Demonstrate an ability to quickly gain a working knowledge of the regulatory issues that impact land development and construction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the HBA’s goals, mission and vision, as well as the activities developed to achieve those goals.
- Must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple and competing projects.
- Must be a self-starter that is able to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Demonstrated experience successfully coordinating volunteers and managing programs.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer an effective government relations program utilizing the members of the association to expand the regional impact of the association.
- Produce periodic and ad hoc reports on issues impacting the industry.
- Clearly communicate to the membership on a consistent basis the work of the Government Affairs team.
- Identify key stakeholders and cultivate strong relationships with those individuals to include elected officials, appointed officials, and members of the association.
- Oversee and coordinate the Government Affairs Committee of the association and the affiliated sub-committees.
- Research best practices from other HBAs and membership associations for ideas to implement at the local HBA.
- Other duties as directed.
