POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Direct Service

  1. Be Rescue Ready through appropriate dress, practices and attentiveness as outlined in the YMCA Aquatics Policies and Procedures
  2. Exhibit professional demeanor by posture, behavior and attentiveness
  3. Ability to answer member service questions or direct them to the appropriate party; build meaningful relationships with members and program participants
  4. Engage in behavior conducive to team building with other staff, such as open communication, encouragement, ongoing feedback, and support
  5. Enforce pool rules consistently using corrective action when needed
  6. Practice preventative lifeguarding and risk management by following YMCA Lifeguarding Best Practices
  7. Administer First Aid, CPR, AED, O2, use appropriate emergency procedures and/or rescues when necessary, and provide appropriate care within trained means
  8. Maintain cleanliness of pool area according to the Aquatics Policies and Procedures
  9. Complete all opening and closing duties thoroughly including securing pool area upon closing

2. Administrative

  1. Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings, maintain certifications and capacity to respond and attend to emergencies
  2. Test pool water and record chemical readings accurately at designated intervals
  3. Report incidents/accidents using appropriate documentation and follow-up procedures
  4. Report to work ready to assume responsibility a minimum of 10minutes early and in appropriate dress (designated by supervisor)
  5. Secure substitutes to cover scheduled shifts in case of an absence and report coverage to supervisor

  • Support the YMCA mission through volunteer development and assist in the Annual Campaign through the development & implementation of special fundraising events
  • Ensure assigned program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, accounting and other administrative systems
  • Exercise appropriate independent judgment, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and concerns
  • Ability to work with diverse population, including but not limited to, all races, ethnicities, ages, genders and gender identities, sexual orientations and diverse abilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess current nationally recognized Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and O2 certifications; ability to maintain certifications throughout duration of employment
  • Ability to act and follow all Lifeguard Rescue Ready and organizational Risk Management procedures • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills, ability to stay on-task, and maintain Rescue-Ready level of attentiveness • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • The work environment may contain exposure to standard chemicals used to maintain a chlorinated pool and clean surfaces
