Primary responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Bus/Van Driver is to transport students in a safe and efficient manner and perform all activities related to the operation of the school bus/van.
Specific responsibilities, including, but not limited to the following:
- Hold and maintain Valid Commercial Driver’s License with “S” Endorsement
- Have a minimum of three years’ previous safe driving experience with no serious violations
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license for the type of equipment to be driven, with no serious violations
- Drive school buses and transport students between school and various events, activities, and destinations
- Check, clean, and perform minor servicing of buses
- Check gas, battery, oil, and water before departure
- Check vehicle for operating safety
- Adhere to safety rules when loading and uploading pupils
- Conduct a pre-trip and post-trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip
- Notify Transition Supervisor of any mechanical malfunctions and/or safety hazards
- Obey all traffic laws and observe mandatory school safety regulations
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
- Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings
- Report all accidents in accordance with N.J.S.A. 39-4:130
