What are the responsibilities and job description for the Baking and Pastry Arts Instructor position at The Gourmandise School?
We are currently seeking a Baking/Pastry Chef Instructor with availability for morning and early afternoon weekend shifts, which are our primary need. Additional evening and weekday opportunities may be available.
The Chef/Instructor is responsible for teaching adults (and children, when applicable) the fundamentals of baking within their area of expertise. We are looking for individuals who can confidently teach a range of specialties, including breads, pies, doughnuts, cakes (including decorating), cookies, and Viennoiserie.
The ideal candidate can adapt their teaching style to accommodate varying skill levels, with a strong emphasis on technique, while also creating an engaging and enjoyable class experience.
- Arrive 1.5 hours prior to class to lead support staff (Kitchen Assistants) in preparing for class according to established prep documents. Shifts are usually 5 hours long for a 3 hour class.
- Oversee and manage Kitchen Assistants during prep, instruction, and cleanup
- Ensure the classroom is fully prepared and organized prior to guest arrival
- Welcome and engage students and guests for classes and private events
- Instruct students on kitchen fundamentals, food safety, house policies, and best practices
- Communicate any student, guest, or staff concerns to management as needed
- Follow established systems for time management and internal communication
- Promote relevant products and services to students during classes
- Minimum of 5 years of baking/pastry instruction experience required
- Teaching experience strongly preferred
- Strong leadership skills with a positive, service-oriented attitude
- Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Solid understanding of customer service principles, including assessing needs and ensuring satisfaction
- Thorough knowledge of food safety standards and practices
- Current and valid Food Handler’s Certificate required
This is a part-time, as-needed position. Most shifts will occur on the weekends, with a primary need for weekend mornings and early afternoons. Additional Private Party shifts could be anytime during the week or weekend.
- $35 – $50 per hour
- One complimentary cooking class per month
Salary : $35 - $50
