What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1-on-1 Personal Assistant – Escape the Service Industry position at The Gouker Household?
Burned out on the service industry? Swap the chaos for a quiet, predictable job.
Who I Am
I’m a professional in my early 40s looking for some part-time help in my private condo in an upscale, scenic neighborhood on the East side of Madison. I have a physical disability, which means I have weak muscles and need someone to act as my physical hands to help me run my life.
If you are exhausted by managing 10 angry tables at once, dealing with unpredictable tip-based income, and working in a chaotic restaurant environment, this job is the exact opposite. This is a quiet, 1-on-1, drama-free role in my private home.
What the Job Actually Looks Like
You don't need any prior medical or care experience for this. I will train you on exactly what to do. Your day-to-day includes full personal care (helping me get dressed and positioned comfortably), assisting me with meals, driving my minivan when we go out, and keeping the household running (cleaning, laundry, meal prep). You get to do all of this in a relaxed environment while hanging out with my two cats and a small dog.
The Pay & The Perks
- $22/hr Starting Wage: Predictable income with no more guessing what your paycheck will be based on tips.
- Clear Path to $28/hr: You earn an automatic $0.50/hr raise for every month you consistently work your scheduled shifts, maxing out at $28/hr.
- No Annoying Coworkers: You will be working 1-on-1 directly with me. There are no passive-aggressive supervisors, no drama between shifts, and no middle management.
- Practical Comfort: Casual dress code and dedicated, reliable parking.
The Schedule
- Shifts are 8 or 12 hours.
- Morning shifts start at 5:00 AM, and overnight shifts end at 5:00 AM.
- Ideally 2 to 3 shifts a week.
- Applicants with overnight or weekend availability are heavily prioritized.
- Must have flexible availability to pick up or swap shifts as needed.
You Should Apply If You Are:
- Comfortable with Stillness: You are highly attentive during bursts of activity but perfectly comfortable relaxing during long stretches of downtime.
- Absolutely Dependable: Your attendance is the key to maintaining my independence. I need someone whose reliability is rock-solid to ensure I can get out of bed and execute my daily routine.
- Receptive to Direct Instruction: You check your ego at the door. Because I direct my own care, I will give you direct, real-time instructions on exactly how I want things done.
