Job Title: [Choir]Music Director – Traditional Church Service
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Full time/Part Time: Part-time
Status (Exempt/Non-exempt): Exempt
Education:
· [Ph.D.] DMA candidate studying choral conducting
· [Ph.D.] DMA preferred
Qualifications/Experience Required:
· Experience as a choral director
· Ability to work in a quickly-changing environment with a variety of people and constituencies
· Ability to work in a team environment
Essential Job Functions:
· Confers and collaborates with the Senior and Associate Pastors, the pianist and the hand bell choir director about musical choices for services as necessary.
· Selects choir anthems and choir related service music.
· [Following the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the choir director integrates new technology into the church worship service and engages the choir in using these technologies]
· Considers diversity of musical style and gender language in selecting music that reflects the progressive theology and the spirit of The Good Shepherd.
· Conducts weekly choir rehearsals (currently Thursday evenings) and at worship services.
· Develops and expands musical program development as warranted.
· Selects and coordinates special choir music.
· Recruits paid ‘Staff Singers’ and arranges for compensation.
· Consults with Music and Worship Committees about major music pieces.
· Coordinates the summer music program.
· Maintains the music library with the assistance of choir members.
· Secures a substitute when needed and arranges for compensation of the substitute.
· Maintains compliance with federal music copyright laws in conjunction with The Good Shepherd’s CCLI license.
· Working with the Worship and Music Committee, prepares an annual music budget and prepares an annual summary of choir activities for the church annual report.
