About This Role
The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the teaching team by fostering a nurturing environment and contributing to educational activities that enhance the quality of care. Effective communication, active listening, and teamwork are essential for success in this role. Assistant teachers also provide essential support to staff, parents, and children, including observing and documenting children's progress and interests, and reporting back to parents and staff. Under the guidance of the Teacher and Director, assistant teachers design engaging activities tailored to children's interests and needs.
What You'll Do
- Support the implementation of curriculum-based activities and encourage active participation from children.
- Take an active role in classroom activities, ensuring materials are organized, clean, and readily available.
- Maintain regular communication with parents through informal discussions and regular progress reports.
- Model good hygiene and self-help practices to encourage positive habits in children.
- Help facilitate a smooth transition from home to the child care center on a daily basis.
- Adhere to all center policies and state regulations.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
- Must pass health screening.
- Must clear full background check.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- High energy.
- Ability to work well with others.
Nice to Have
Coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field at the college level can be advantageous.
A certificate in child development can be a valuable asset.
Two or more years of experience in a licensed childcare facility can provide a strong foundation for success.
