The Township of East Brunswick is seeking a reliable and organized Staff Accountant with superior math skills and advanced experience in Microsoft Excel. This candidate will perform the duties of Staff Accountant, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer and working with Assistant Finance Director as an integral part of the Finance team. The Staff Accountant will assist with all aspects of financial record keeping and budgeting for various funds and improve and formalize processes for capturing source information used in the preparation of statements.
The Municipal Finance Staff Accountant Is Responsible For:
- Assisting in the control and processing of cash transactions and the preparation of bank reconciliations.
- Assisting in the preparation and input of the annual budget.
- Accurately preparing, posting, maintaining, and reconciling, as applicable, all books, ledgers, schedulers, statements, reports, and other records pertaining to municipal and utility finances to facilitate audit review and the annual financial statement.
- Assisting in the analysis and monitoring of separate accounts for all budgeted appropriations and anticipated revenue.
- Preparing monthly and year-end reports of all revenues and expenditures and preparing periodic status reports for all budget revenues and appropriations as they correspond to the annual adopted budget.
- Preparing and analyzing reports on all investments and debts, including the annual debt statement, and preparing financial data in the official statements related to municipal bond and note sales.
- Participating in the development of financial policy, which includes preparing projections and calculations to support long-term plans concerning revenue, appropriations, surplus, the tax levy and caps thereon, and the municipal budget appropriations cap.
- Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of a system of internal controls to safeguard assets and monitor compliance, including the documentation of internal accounting controls, user training, compliance, and audits of internal controls.
- Providing general accounting support and performing related tasks as required.
Experience: Experience is a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Finance, Accounting, Math or equivalent field.
Licensing & Certifications: Valid N.J. driver’s license.
