Job Summary:
This position is responsible for controlling traffic and directing both vehicles and pedestrians in and around construction zones to ensure the safety of all individuals present.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

- Direct and control the flow of traffic in construction zones using hand signals, signs, or other designated methods
- Use standard hand signals or flagging devices to communicate with drivers and equipment operators
- Ensure that vehicles and pedestrians follow specified routes and safety guidelines
- Communicate effectively with other construction workers including other flaggers, laborers, operators, foremen, etc.
- Relay information about potential safety hazards to the appropriate personnel
- Strictly adhere to safety regulations
- Wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is required on the job
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to adapt to changing tasks and responsibilities
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to understand and follow verbal directions
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Basic understanding of construction environment
- Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to work long hours including some nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and to stoop, bend, and crouch to perform full range of duties
- Must maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment
- Work may involve frequently walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
- Periodically exposed to high levels of noise, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and dust typically associated with construction projects
- Ability to lift and carry traffic control devices
