Job Overview
Join our dedicated team as a Highway Maintenance Worker and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and longevity of our transportation infrastructure. This position involves maintaining and repairing county highway roads and bridges, and related civil infrastructure projects. On a designated work crew, you will be responsible for the careful and safe operation of a variety of motorized equipment, hand tools, power tools, and seasonal snow and ice control.
Duties
- Performs snow and ice control activities, including the application of brine material
- Operate heavy machinery including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks to perform road repairs, grading, paving, and other maintenance tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections of highway conditions and identify areas needing repair or upkeep.
- Perform manual labor such as heavy lifting, manual handling of materials, and use of hand tools for repairs and construction activities.
- Performs traffic control in work zones to ensure safety for workers and travelers alike.
- Support construction projects by executing tasks related to road construction, asphalt paving, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Follow all safety protocols according to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in highway maintenance or construction work is highly preferred; familiarity with road construction processes is a plus.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and front loader trucks
- Ability to handle heavy lifting safely and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge of traffic control procedures for work zones to ensure safety for workers and the public.
- Valid commercial truck driving license (CDL) required; familiarity with FMCSA regulations required for drivers involved in transportation tasks.
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other construction-related tools safely and effectively.
- Performs mowing, janitorial services, building maintenance; operates mowers, roadside mowers, and boom mowers; stockpile salt when needed.
- Commitment to safety protocol adherence at all times during operations on highway or construction sites.
