What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bicycle Mechanic position at The Gear Fix?
π Location: The Gear Fix (550 SW Industrial Way Suite 183 Bend, OR 97702)
π° Pay: $19-26 per hour (based on experience, advancement opportunities abound!)
π Schedule: Full-time (4-day work week) must be available holidays & weekends
Are you an experienced Bike Mechanic who thrives on problem-solving while working on everything from vintage steel frames to cutting-edge electronic shifting bikes? Our shop services ALL types of bikes and riders, and the learning never stops. π§ Bike Service & Repairs:
- Diagnose and execute tune packages, wheel truing, spoke replacement, bearing overhauls, tubeless conversions, rotor truing, etc.
- Install and adjust brakes, shifters, cranksets, cassettes, rotors, derailleurs, and internally routed cables
- Overhaul suspension components, bottom brackets, headsets, and hubs
- Write service and consignment estimates that clearly communicate all details to customers and coworkers
π¬ Customer Service & Consignment Operations:
- Inspect, process, price, and sell used consignment gear and bikes, ensuring quality control
- Assist customers with bike parts, racks, accessories, and repair recommendations
- Manage register transactions and handle inquiries via phone, email, and in-store
- Accurately log repairs, service details, and estimates
π¦ Shop & Inventory Management:
- Keep workspace, tools, and inventory organized for efficiency
- Assist in monthly audits, inventory restocking, and shop cleaning tasks
- Maintain shop tools and machinery
π Community & Team Involvement:
- Participate in quarterly meetings assist with after-hours clinics and events
- Keep up with industry trends and emerging bike technologies
- Be an integral part of a team that values quality, craftsmanship, and outdoor adventure
βοΈ Bike mechanic experience with strong repair knowledge
βοΈ Ability and desire to diagnose, and repair a wide variety of bikes
βοΈ Strong customer service and communication skills
βοΈ A team player who thrives in a hands-on environment
βοΈ Must be available at least one weekend day
βοΈ Knowledgeable or keen to learn about winter gear and service
