Location: Roanoke, VA (Grandin Village) Compensation: $80,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
The Opportunity: Architecture Built on Listening
Gaines Group Architects is seeking a community-focused professional to join our team in a role designed for a "doer" ready to become a "leader". Established in 1987, our practice is built on a skill many architects overlook: the foundation of empathy and truly listening to our clients' needs to develop the most thoughtful solutions.
We are a generalist firm that prides itself on a collaborative approach across diverse project types and architectural styles throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. This position is intended for an individual interested in planting roots and pursuing future ownership and partnership opportunities within the firm.
Your Impact
As a key member of our Roanoke team, you will:
- Champion the Client: Use your listening skills to understand client visions, needs, and constraints, ensuring their voice is reflected in every phase of design.
- Lead with Authority: Step quickly into a Project Manager role for smaller-scale projects, overseeing timelines and design integrity.
- Design for Good: Develop creative, energy-efficient solutions for a diverse portfolio that makes a meaningful impact in multiple Virginia communities.
- Engage the Community: Represent the firm in business development and community initiatives within the Roanoke and New River Valley markets.
- Collaborate Broadly: Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies while working across our Charlottesville and Harrisonburg offices as needed.
- Shape Culture: Mentor junior staff and contribute to the growth of our firm’s collaborative, creative environment.
Qualifications
We value the “right fit” above all—someone who is already active in their community and believes in the power of mission-driven design.
- Experience: Approximately 3 years of professional experience in an architecture firm.
- Licensure: Currently Licensed or actively on the License-track (NCARB AXP/ARE).
- Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills are mandatory for this leadership path.
- Detail-Oriented: A strong organizational mindset with a focus on detail and project management abilities.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is essential.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and building science integration.
- Flexibility: A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to our Charlottesville and Harrisonburg offices as needed.
Why Join Gaines Group?
- A Seat at the Table: Transparent partnership track opportunities for those committed to firm excellence.
- Comprehensive Care: Benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Investment in You: Ongoing professional development and continuing education support.
- Purposeful Work: An opportunity to focus on healthy, energy-efficient, and durable design solutions that build stronger communities.
