Duties
- Prepare examination rooms and assist healthcare providers during patient consultations across specialties including dermatology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and hospital settings.
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient intake information accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing such as phlebotomy procedures, prepare samples for analysis, and ensure proper documentation.
- Assist with medical procedures including medication administration, X-ray assistance, basic life support (BLS), and basic physiology assessments.
- Manage medical documentation meticulously—update patient records, ICD coding for diagnoses, and ensure compliance with medical records management standards.
- Provide exceptional patient service by answering questions, explaining procedures, and supporting patients through their visit with empathy and professionalism.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), verifying insurance information, and maintaining medical office organization.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office environment with familiarity in medical assisting duties across various specialties such as dermatology, urgent care, or hospital medicine.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, ICD coding, and EMR/EHR management systems.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like phlebotomy or X-ray technician credentials are a plus.
- Inpatient experience or hospital-based roles—particularly within Level I or Level II trauma centers—are highly desirable.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks including vital signs measurement, intake procedures, medication administration, and specimen collection efficiently.
- Knowledge of emergency medicine protocols and experience working in fast-paced environments such as emergency departments or PICU settings is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills to manage medical records accurately while maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
