Facilities Manager and Technician

The Front Climbing Club
Salt Lake, UT Full Time
POSTED ON 10/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/15/2026
Join The Front Climbing Club as a Facilities Manager and Technician!

SUMMARY //

The Facilities Manager and Technician keeps The Front's Salt Lake City and South Main facilities safe, working and looking their best. This is a hands-on, highly technical role. About 80% of the job is doing maintenance, repairs and improvements across every building system, from HVAC, plumbing and electrical to fitness equipment, security systems and specialty gear. The other 20% is running the facilities department: leading staff, managing requests, sourcing parts and keeping SOPs and maintenance records current. We're looking for a skilled multi-trade technician and natural leader. You'll be the department's top technical resource and own its planning and administration with minimal oversight.

ABOUT US //

The Front Climbing Club was Utah's first indoor rock-climbing gym, and one of the first in the nation. From its humble beginnings as The Body Shop back in the 80's to three best-in-class facilities today, The Front has never lost its soul or connection to its roots.

Our facilities are at the heart of what we do. We aim to build welcoming and innovative spaces for Utah's climbing and outdoor community, and we care for them with real attention to detail. The facilities team makes that possible. Every working heater, smooth-running treadmill and spotless locker room helps members feel at home, and that's why they keep coming back.

RESPONSIBILITIES //

  • Ensure a high level of customer care by maintaining a friendly, compassionate, and professional demeanor
  • Consistently seek ways to improve the customer experience by anticipating and addressing the needs of guests
  • Perform hands-on repairs, preventative maintenance, improvements, and cleaning across the SLC and South Main facilities
  • Diagnose and repair all building systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, IT, security systems, fitness equipment, doors and hardware, appliances, and specialty equipment
  • Serve as the department's top technical resource: tackle complex repairs, troubleshoot tough problems, and decide when a licensed contractor is truly needed
  • Carry out the preventative maintenance schedule and inspections, including filter changes, high-chalk cleaning, and code-compliance checks
  • Respond to urgent repair calls and handle seasonal duties such as winterizing, landscaping, and snow removal
  • Lead facilities staff by planning the weekly workload, delegating work, checking quality, and training new team members
  • Own the facilities request process and keep the asset tracking system, preventative maintenance calendar, SOPs, and maintenance records up to date
  • Source and purchase parts and supplies, coordinate contractors and vendors, and report progress, upcoming major repairs, and budget needs to leadership

REQUIREMENTS //

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on facilities maintenance experience (trade school or apprenticeship training may count), including 1–2 years in a lead or management role
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to enhance the customer experience, recognizing that customer satisfaction is a company-wide effort
  • Proven ability to prioritize customer needs while decision-making and problem-solving to ensure a positive experience
  • Advanced repair skills across all major building trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall and painting, doors and hardware, and mechanical equipment (this is not a light-maintenance role)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities; exercise equipment maintenance experience and trade licenses or certifications (HVAC, EPA 608, electrical, plumbing) are a plus
  • Experience supervising others, including assigning work and training staff, plus experience with purchasing and basic inventory management
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with strong organizational, time management, communication, and recordkeeping skills
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Microsoft Suite, and maintenance tracking software
  • Availability for occasional nights, weekends, and urgent response calls; valid driver's license required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally, and to work safely on ladders, scaffolds, and at varying heights

BENEFITS // Medical, dental, vision healthcare plans, life insurance, 401K Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), free membership to all locations of the Front including unlimited fitness and yoga classes, monthly buddy pass, discounted climbing programs, retail discounts, and discounts to the Front's cafes

WORKING ENVIRONMENT // This position is based at our Salt Lake City and South Main facilities and splits time between indoor and outdoor work year-round. Expect regular exposure to airborne chalk, dust, and cleaning chemicals. Outdoor work includes property inspections, landscaping, and snow and ice removal in all weather. The role uses hand and power tools, ladders, and scaffolds daily. Possible hazards include cuts, punctures, debris in the eyes, repetitive-motion strain, and slips, trips, or falls. PPE is provided and required as each task calls for. Good close vision, color vision (for wiring and equipment indicators), and depth perception are needed to work safely at height.

SALARY RANGE // $35–$40 per hour, depending on experience

MISSION STATEMENT // The Front's mission is to create innovative spaces that maximize the climbing experience, inspire meaningful connections, and foster an engaged community.

EEO STATEMENT // The Front Climbing Club is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
