Community Outreach Operations Associate (Part-Time, Seasonal)

COSS OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE

The Fresh Air Fund is a youth development organization providing transformative outdoor experiences, at no cost, for New York City children from underserved communities. At six sleepaway camps in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley, children have new experiences, learn new skills and gain new perspectives. Youth also participate in year-round leadership, career exploration and educational programs. 

Position Summary

The Fresh Air Fund is recruiting Operations Associates to work on the Community Outreach, Partnerships & Support Services team under the supervision of the Deputy Director. Operations Associates will assist with all aspects of the application process for families to register for our summer programs.

This role will be a hybrid position, and time will be split between The Fresh Air Fund NYC Office, Riverbank Park (as needed), and occasional remote work.

Responsibilities

The COSS Operations Associate will help with all aspects of the application process including communication with NYC parents to complete child applications. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with application review and completion processing.
• Manage a high volume of phone calls regarding summer programs, application process, and child application status.
• Communicate and assist parents with completing applications in person and over the phone.
• Assist with conducting virtual/in-person information and orientation sessions regarding summer programs.
• Implement department recruitment strategies, which may include:
  • Prepare materials for community partners and recruitment events.
  • Staff events and tabling at various agencies.
  • Help with mailings and other appropriate follow-up with community partners and our families.
• Might require travelling to different boroughs within New York City by public transportation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
• Comfort speaking with families over the phone and in person.
• Patient and friendly, with a high degree of professionalism.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately.
• Bilingual and fluency in languages other than English a plus (e.g. Spanish, Mandarin, ASL).
• Interest in joining a youth development organization and supporting its mission and vision.

Employment Period: April 27, 2026, through July 31, 2026

Hours per Week: 20-28 hours per week

Working Hours: Staff will be assigned work hours that fall between 9am-7pm, Monday – Friday. It may require evening and weekend hours as needed.

Compensation: $18 / hour
