What are the responsibilities and job description for the Distribution Manager position at The Free Press (Mankato)?
The Distribution Manager plans and conducts operations and sales as well as organize, advise and coordinate all home delivery activities. This encompasses all products distributed by The Free Press. It includes development and direction of all sales, field and support personnel. Responsible for the sales motivation and direction of customer service. The position is responsible for statistical reporting, working with Publisher/Regional Audience Development Director on staffing, revenue and budget volumes and expenses.
- Additional duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Maximizing subscriber retention through solid communication with contractors, district managers, staff and customers.
- Managing home/mail delivery expenses through budgeting, planning, and cost controls.
- Responsible for developing delivery force to achieve superior customer service and delivery.
- Responsible for growing circulations volumes and maximizing revenue for the department.
- Responsible for developing customer service staff to achieve sales and service goals.
- Conduct regular staff sales and communication meetings.
- Track personnel, revenue and expenses of each area. Maintain profitability and sales through proper analysis.
- Maintain and grow other revenue streams of alternate products and assure delivery service is accomplished.

- Required to have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, reliable transportation and be able to provide proof of insurance.
- Required routinely to lift weights of 50 pounds. Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to deliver a down newspaper route, during dark early morning hours.
- Must be generally able to climb stairs, move quickly to visit or collect single copy locations, or to move to a basement in the event of an emergency. College degree and/or equivalent field experience, effective communication skills, sales skills, excellent computer skills. Able to work early morning hours, weekends and holidays.
Candidate should possess solid computer expertise in typical MS Word and desktop applications. Must have strong persuasive oral and written communication skills. Must have ability to exercise independent judgment in order to handle a variety of duties. Strong organizational and time management skills are extremely helpful.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
