About Us
The Good Art Company is one of Fredericksburg's premier fine art galleries, representing nationally recognized artists and serving collectors from across the country for over 17 years.
We're looking for a Sales Director who enjoys building relationships, has a passion for exceptional customer service, and thrives in a beautiful, creative environment.
This is not a typical retail position. The owner will continue to oversee the business strategy, artist relationships, bookkeeping, marketing, and long-term growth while the Gallery Director manages the day-to-day operations of the gallery.
Responsibilities
- Welcome collectors and visitors with warmth, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
- Build meaningful relationships that naturally lead to art sales.
- Learn about our artists and confidently present their work to collectors.
- Oversee the daily operation of the gallery.
- Open and close the gallery.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and beautifully presented gallery environment.
- Receive incoming artwork and deliveries.
- Carefully unpack, inspect, and prepare artwork for display.
- Package artwork for shipping and coordinate outgoing shipments.
- Coordinate customer pickups and deliveries.
- Assist with hanging artwork and rotating exhibitions.
- Monitor inventory and communicate inventory needs to the owner.
- Help prepare the gallery for special events and exhibition openings.
- Provide exceptional customer service before, during, and after each sale.
- Work collaboratively with our part-time team member.
- Keep the owner informed of sales activity, customer feedback, and any operational needs.
- Ring of sales, print invoices, and collect payments.
This Position Does NOT Include
The Sales Director is not responsible for:
- Bookkeeping
- Payroll
- Marketing
- Social media management
- Advertising
- Financial reporting
- Purchasing artwork
- Strategic business planning
- Artist Relationships
Those responsibilities remain with the owner.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate:
- Has proven sales experience, preferably in luxury retail, hospitality, interior design, galleries, or other relationship-based industries.
- Enjoys meeting new people and creating memorable customer experiences.
- Is self-motivated and comfortable working independently.
- Is dependable, trustworthy, and highly organized.
- Has excellent communication skills.
- Learns quickly and enjoys educating customers about artwork.
- Handles artwork with great care and attention to detail.
- Is comfortable lifting and moving artwork when necessary.
- Possesses basic computer skills and is comfortable learning the Gallery Point of Sale system.
Schedule
- Wednesday through Saturday
- Gallery hours: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Average of 20–25 hours per week
- Occasional additional hours for exhibition installations, artwork deliveries, shipping, or gallery events.
