What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Help/ Seasonal Laborer position at The Franklin County Engineer's Office?
Student Help and Seasonal Laborers are hired to support various departments with a range of operational, maintenance, and administrative tasks. For the 2026 summer season, assistance is needed in the following areas: Highway Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Mobility, Bridge, and Asset Management.
Individuals interested in Highway Maintenance may assist with flagging and traffic control, shoveling, handling stone, mowing grass, and performing miscellaneous cleaning and general tasks around the shop. Those assigned to Fleet Maintenance may work alongside mechanics and assist with painting, cleaning, and some clerical tasks. In the Mobility Department, seasonal employees may support the striping crew by setting cones, assisting with sign installations, and helping with related roadway operations. In the Bridge Department, employees may assist crews with the construction and maintenance of bridges and culverts and other related field duties. In Asset Management, seasonal employees may assist with administrative and data-related tasks, including working in SharePoint and performing other office or documentation duties.
All seasonal employees will receive the required safety training and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely perform their assigned tasks. Steel-toed boots will be issued as needed.
Seasonal schedules may vary by department; however, all seasonal positions are intended to work 40 hours per week, which may include four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday), with student help and seasonal appointments typically running from May through August or September.
The minimum age for all employment is 18 years.
Pre-employment drug testing is required.
