Overview
The Food Basket’s SNAP Outreach program seeks a highly motivated and compassionate individual to serve as a East Hawaii Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach Specialist. The SNAP Outreach Specialist will raise awareness of SNAP benefits among eligible individuals and families and assist in the application process. This role will involve building relationships with community-based organizations, the education system, and social service agencies to promote SNAP and other related programs. This position combines outreach and in-office work.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about SNAP benefits within the East Hawaii community.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to clients in completing SNAP applications and understanding eligibility requirements.
- Collaborate with local organizations, food banks, and community groups to promote SNAP enrollment and resources.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients effectively and address barriers to accessing benefits.
- Monitor program participation and collect data for reporting purposes while ensuring client confidentiality.
- Stay informed about changes in SNAP policies and regulations to provide accurate information to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement outreach strategies to reach eligible individuals and families who may qualify for SNAP benefits.
· Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, local businesses, and social service agencies to promote SNAP and other related programs.
· Conduct presentations, workshops, and other educational sessions to inform the public about SNAP eligibility and benefits.
· Provide SNAP information and assistance to individuals and families seeking to enroll.
· Assist with the completion and submission of SNAP applications and required documentation.
· Conduct follow-up outreach activities to ensure that individuals and families receive their SNAP benefits and other related assistance.
· Track and report on outreach activities and program outcomes
· Collaborate with other SNAP outreach specialists and community partners to identify gaps in services and opportunities for program improvement
· Create engaging digital content to post on SNAP Outreach social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook)
· Update and maintain SNAP Outreach social media accounts and LinkTree page with up- to-date information on program services, contact information, and other information for clients
· Create and update informational flyers, handouts, and brochures for SNAP clients
· Maintains client confidence and trust by keeping information confidential
· Complies with equal rights and opportunities regulations
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· High school diploma and two years of outreach experience
· An associate degree or higher is a plus
· Experience in community outreach, program development, or related areas
Skills, Abilities, and Other:
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
· Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
· Ability to work independently
· Proficient computer skills
· Hawaii Driver’s License
· Access to an insured vehicle
· Bilingual skills are a plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
