Position Summary
The Dock Hand plays a key role in delivering an exceptional experience for boat club members. This position combines hands-on dock operations, vessel care, and high-level customer service to ensure boats are clean, well-maintained, and ready for every outing. The ideal candidate is personable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in maintaining the quality and appearance of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Member Experience
- Greet boat club members upon arrival and assist with check-in/check-out procedures
- Prepare boats prior to member use, ensuring they are clean, fueled, and fully ready
- Provide a thorough orientation of the vessel, safety features, and local boating guidelines
- Assist members with docking, undocking, and securing vessels upon return
- Address member questions and resolve concerns in a friendly and professional manner
- Help create a welcoming and positive atmosphere on the docks
Boat Cleaning & Fleet Care
- Clean and detail boats after each use, including washing, wiping down surfaces, removing trash, and resetting equipment
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and presentation across the entire boat club fleet
- Inspect boats before and after each use to ensure they are in proper working condition
- Monitor and report any damage, wear and tear, or maintenance needs to management
- Assist with light maintenance tasks as needed (battery checks, basic upkeep, etc.)
Dock Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of docks, walkways, and marina facilities
- Monitor the overall condition and readiness of all boats in the fleet
- Handle lines, fenders, and docking equipment safely and efficiently
- Support fueling operations and ensure proper procedures are followed
- Report maintenance or safety issues promptly
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce marina and boating safety rules and regulations
- Conduct basic safety checks on vessels before and after use
- Ensure all required safety equipment is present and in good condition
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations as directed
Qualifications
- Previous boating or marina experience preferred, but not required
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on cleanliness and organization
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working on and around boats and water
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and perform physical tasks
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- Valid driver’s license required (boating certification a plus)
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
Work Location: In person
