ABOUT THE POSITION
The Security Supervisor supports the Director of Security in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Museum’s security team. This position serves as a working supervisor, maintaining a visible presence on the floor while ensuring that safety protocols are upheld and that the Security Officers perform their duties effectively and professionally. The Security Supervisor plays a key role in fostering a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff, in alignment with the Museum’s mission to remember the Holocaust and educate future generations. After completion of training, the shift will be Thursday - Monday (8 hours per day) or Thursday - Sunday (10 hours per day).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director of Security in managing daily operations and shift coverage for the Security team.
- Supervise Security Officers during assigned shifts, providing guidance, performance oversight, and support as needed.
- Ensure proper staffing of security posts and coordinate break schedules.
- Serve as a liaison between frontline officers and the Director of Security.
- Monitor the Museum’s entrances, exhibits, and public areas to ensure visitor safety and policy compliance.
- Conduct patrols of all Museum areas, including three floors and exterior spaces, and ensure officers do the same.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents or emergencies and take lead on-site until relieved by the Director or emergency personnel.
- Support the use and monitoring of surveillance equipment, access control systems, and alarm panels.
- Provide on-the-spot training, coaching, and de-escalation assistance to officers when needed.
- Review and submit incident reports and ensure documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
- Assist in onboarding and training of new security personnel and ensure ongoing adherence to protocols.
- Participate in planning for large events, coordinating crowd management and visitor flow logistics.
- Model exceptional customer service while maintaining security awareness and professional boundaries.
- Collaborate with Museum staff to support emergency preparedness and evacuation drills.
- Perform all other duties of a Security Officer as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Florida Class D security license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional security-related training preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of security experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Background in military, law enforcement, or museum/cultural institution security preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead by example and resolve conflict effectively.
- Training in de-escalation techniques.
- Experience with incident response, report writing, and use of security technology.
- Must be able to work Saturday and Sunday.
- Must pass a background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours per shift, including frequent walking throughout a multi-level facility.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs quickly in response to emergency situations (e.g., ascend and descend up to two flights within 30 seconds).
- Ability to physically respond to incidents, which may include running, restraining individuals, or taking protective action, as appropriate to the situation.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g., setting up barriers or moving security equipment).
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and conduct thorough security checks throughout the Museum’s interior and exterior.
- Visual acuity sufficient to monitor surveillance systems and detect suspicious activity.
- Auditory ability to respond promptly to alarms, radio communications, and verbal instructions, even in noisy environments.
- Ability to work in various conditions, including indoor and outdoor environments, and remain alert and focused for extended periods.
