About the Role

The Finance Agency partners with growing businesses to provide outsourced accounting and finance support across a variety of industries. We are looking for an experienced Senior Client Accountant to provide technical accounting support across our client portfolio.

This role is ideal for an accountant who enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, managing project-based accounting, and working directly with clients. Rather than focusing on repetitive transaction processing, you'll take ownership of technical accounting matters and one-off client requests while supporting our Accounting Coordinator with accounting guidance and review.

You will work alongside our Accounting Operations Manager, who oversees month-end close and bookkeeping operations, while partnering closely with our Director of Advisory on more complex client engagements.

This is not a Controller or CFO role. Forecasting, strategic planning, and business advisory remain with our leadership team, allowing you to focus on execution accounting support.

Key Responsibilities

Client Accounting

• Serve as the primary accounting contact for assigned clients on technical accounting matters.
• Respond to client accounting questions and provide practical accounting guidance.
• Research and resolve complex accounting issues.
• Prepare accounting schedules and supporting documentation as required.
• Assist with year-end requests from external tax professionals.
• Identify accounting issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
  

Project & Cost Accounting

• Calculate and prepare borrowing base certificates.
• Perform job costing and cost-per-unit calculations.
• Review project profitability and cost allocations.
• Support construction and project-based accounting engagements.
• Prepare and maintain work-in-progress schedules where required.
• Review project accounting to ensure costs are recorded accurately.
  

Accounting Review & Support

• Review client billing prepared by the Accounting Coordinator and provide guidance where required.
• Review complex accounting transactions before processing.
• Prepare and review non-routine journal entries.
• Assist with revenue recognition, accruals, fixed assets, and other technical accounting matters.
• Ensure accounting treatments are consistent with best practices.
• Provide technical accounting support to the Accounting Coordinator and bookkeeping team.
  

Special Projects

• Complete one-off accounting projects for clients.
• Assist with accounting system implementations and process improvements.
• Support clean-up projects and historical accounting reviews.
• Develop accounting procedures and documentation to improve consistency across the client portfolio.
  

Qualifications

Required

• 5 years of accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
• Experience working with multiple clients or entities simultaneously.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience preparing complex journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

• Public accounting or outsourced accounting experience.
• Construction or project accounting experience.
• Experience preparing borrowing base certificates.
• Job costing and cost accounting experience.
• Experience with revenue recognition.
• Familiarity with Gusto.
• Experience working across multiple accounting software platforms.
  

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position working within Arizona business hours.

Must be comfortable working in a remote setting.
