The Lead Officer of Security Operations supports the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and programs that ensure the safety of Museum property, employees, volunteers, and visitors. This role coordinates training and serves as the lead in emergency situations when senior leadership is absent. The position also assists with the contracted security firm to maintain adequate staffing and provides operational support across shifts as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Training & Staff Development
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop and deliver security training and manage first-shift schedules.
Partner with the contracted security firm on staffing needs and contractor training.
Ensure staff are prepared for emergency response, fire safety, and accident prevention procedures.
Supervision & Staffing
Supervise first-shift security personnel and contractors to maintain effective operations.
Manage scheduling and staffing levels for first-shift staff; support other shifts when needed.
Partner with Assistant manager to arrange contractor coverage for shifts, special assignments, and Museum events.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
Lead emergency response efforts in the absence of Assistant Manager and or the Manager of Operations (e.g., investigations, safety incidents, major events).
Assist with fire evacuations, emergency response plan execution, and exit drills.
Respond appropriately to incidents and ensure effective communication during emergencies.
Operations & Reporting
Update Protection Services metrics and prepare reports (monthly Museum Updates, security requests, event coverage, major events).
Coordinate and manage security support for internal Museum events.
Arrange contractor coverage for shifts, special assignments, and events.
Provide staffing support across shifts as needed.
Other
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in security or related field.
Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and remain calm under pressure.
Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain in a stationary position or move about the Museum for extended periods.
Ability to respond promptly to alarms and emergency situations, including moving quickly to various locations.
Ability to ascend/descend ladders and stairs
Ability to position oneself to lift, move, or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and tolerate a range of weather conditions while performing duties.
Supervision Received:
Receives general supervision by the Operation Manager of Security Operations.
Supervision Exercised:
Provides general direction and task supervision to security staff, including contractors (other shifts as needed).
Work Hours and Shift:
40 hours per week
