The Internship to Career (I2C) program offers meaningful, integrated work-based learning experiences to pre-employment transition students ages 14-21. Through work readiness skills training, resource sharing, one-on-one job exploration counseling, and internships, participants will gain the confidence and experience necessary to succeed in their career path of choice.

This is a remote position that requires some travel within the following counties as applicable: Burlington, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Somerset, and Union.

 Job Duties:

  • Maintain an active caseload of participants, ensuring at least two contacts per month.
  • Conduct virtual and in-person intake assessments for Internship to Career (I2C) program referrals dependent on the expressed needs of participants and their families.
  • Document progress notes in Foothold for pre-employment transition services (pre-ETS).
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant communication and documentation of program interactions.
  • Prepare detailed employment plans based on participant goals and support needs.
  • Communicate via phone call, text, email, telehealth platform, and in-person interaction with participants, families, and school officials on a consistent, recurring basis.
  • Design and lead pre- and post-internship workshops to prepare students for the workplace.
  • Offer job exploration counseling and assessments to determine career paths and internship opportunities aligned with participant skills and interests.
  • Provide workplace readiness training including but not limited to interview preparation and creation of relevant application materials such as a professional resume.
  • Establish ongoing partnerships with local businesses and organizations by determining the most effective method(s) of outreach including but not limited to phone calls, emails, virtual (Zoom) meetings, and in-person visits to potential sites of interest.
  • Visit internship locations with participants for worksite tours.
  • Review employment verification documentation and timesheets for student interns.
  • Educate and support participants in regard to existing transportation options and mileage reimbursement processes.
  • Refer participants to additional supports as needed, including benefits counseling, Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), supportive housing, guardianship, support coordination, and paratransit options.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internship supervisors and complete regular check-ins to ensure the work experience is beneficial to both the participant and the employer.
  • Promote services for transition-aged youth with disabilities through school and organization outreach, presentations, social media, and other targeted outreach efforts.
  • Represent the program at resource fairs, conferences, networking events, and community outreach activities.
  • Prepare reports for applicable Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) counselors assigned to provide services to participants managed on caseloads.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college in Human Services or a similar field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a human services position or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working with youth, especially individuals between the ages of 14-21, with disabilities or in a job developer or job coach role preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, patience, and empathy.
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate the needs of participants and employers.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within service counties.
