Position Summary: Supports the Program Directors at AMP and Men's Shelter by providing oversight and supervision of the Resident Advocate support staff for both shelters; collaborates with other Residential Services Program Directors regarding client service delivery and provides on-call coverage in rotation with residential program managers. Resident Advocates (RA) provide supportive services to clients and case managers and are sometimes the first in-person contact a client has with the shelter. RA’s provide initial client intakes, transportation, bus passes, room set up, answering shelter calls, providing client and guest entrances into the building, and other duties. Provides leadership in the absence of Program Director.

Staff Supervision: full time Resident Advocates and Weekend Resident Advocates

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides day to day supervision of the emergency shelter services Resident Advocate staff; monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of advocacy services.
  • Ensures Resident Advocates complete client intakes and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Reviews Clients First Database daily to ensure 100% accuracy regarding client entrances in the emergency shelter and overflow hotel entered by Resident Advocates.

Manages concerns relating to scheduling and shift coverage and keeps track of the Resident Advocate schedules and covers Resident Advocate shifts as needed.

  • Works with the Operations Team to ensure the agency cameras are operational and Resident Advocates are properly trained on safety cameras, client entrance protocols and all safety protocols for entering the building.

 

Staff Training:

  • Ensures new staff members have a smooth, informative, and productive on-boarding process their first year of employment with agency by providing an orientation process that provides mentoring, coaching and training; feedback surveys will be sent to new staff throughout their first year of employment to capture their orientation process.
  • Collaborates with Director of Learning and Development, to ensure training programs fulfill the needs of program staff.
  • Encourages staff development and education; facilitates ongoing monthly training to full-time and Weekend Resident Advocates on the issues of domestic violence, Intake procedures, Clients First database, crisis intervention and de-escalation, etc. and monitors on a regular basis to ensure staff maintains professional knowledge.

 

Administration

  • Ensures coordination of communication with staff and clients to enhance services.
  • Facilitates weekly individual supervision and team meetings with full-time employees and bi-monthly supervision and team meetings with weekend employees; monitors the effectiveness of services being provided. Attends weekly supervision and team meetings with Program Directors.
  • Collaborates with Program Director regarding client service delivery and assists with monitoring program census in shelter and overflow hotel.
  • Interviews and screens potential staff for open Resident Advocate positions, administers annual and mid-year employee evaluations; provides coaching and performance feedback to members of the resident advocate team; works with the Program Directors addressing employee disciplinary notices, performance improvement plans, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Residential Services and Program Director, creates and implement policy and procedures for Resident Advocate staff.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of emergency clothing and shoe supply.

 

Professional Development:

  • Attends agency provided, professional development courses relating to domestic violence and business acumen.
  • Maintains current social work CEU’s by completing the necessary, annual trainings and certifications.

 

Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in social work, (Master’s preferred, but not required) counseling, education, or related field required. At least one to two years managing a staff over 5 employees.


Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License and clear driving record

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, incest recovery and related issues.
  • Experienced in scheduling work shifts for staff and maintaining coverage for client services.
  • Knowledge and experience of program development and performance management.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral) are required.
  • Ability to build strong teams to meet performance goals.
  • Ability to maintain a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.
  • Understanding of the agency’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances.
  • Ability to follow all safety and precautionary rules and measures;
  • Ability to prioritize and self-motivate to accomplish program goals;
  • Ability to perform work efficiently and effectively under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements: Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (less than 25 lbs.).
 

Working Conditions: Work must be performed in the agency office and is performed in an office-like setting.
 

Working Location: Work must be performed on-site at the shelter due to the confidentiality of the clients.
