Ophthalmic Assistant

The Eye Center of Natchez is seeking an experienced, dependable, and compassionate Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, offering an excellent work environment and competitive benefits.

Position Summary

The Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties that support the ophthalmologist in delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves collecting patient information, documenting medical histories, performing diagnostic testing, assisting physicians during examinations, and administering treatments as directed and permitted.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Collect and document accurate patient information and medical histories
  • Perform ophthalmic measurements and diagnostic testing as directed
  • Assist physicians during patient examinations and procedures
  • Maintain precise and consistent patient records
  • Provide chairside assistance to the ophthalmologist
  • Administer treatments as ordered by the physician and within scope of practice
  • Ensure a positive patient experience by addressing concerns with professionalism and empathy
  • Support clinical workflow while maintaining efficiency and attention to detail
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards

  • Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records

Education and ExperienceRequired

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Medical office or healthcare experience
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Strong English language and basic math skills
