Overview
We are looking for a full time medical secretary for a busy Ophthalmology Practice in Waterbury AND Southbury CT (weekly traveling to both offices required as scheduled). Someone who is hard working, a team player who is interested in working in an environment with a supportive staff and management team, rave patient reviews, robust staff appreciation activities and recognition and a group of amazing doctors.
We are looking for a friendly personality with a working knowledge and understanding of EHR, insurance, vision and managed care plans, as well as collections. Experience checking patients in and out and answering busy phones/outbound calls is helpful. Must have excellent customer service skills.
The ideal candidate is comfortable wearing many hats, accustomed to a very busy environment, and enjoys working with physicians. In addition, the day to day will require Front Desk responsibility, collecting copays and outstanding balances, assisting with outbound calls. Spanish language helpful. All Patient Services associates are required to work a late night (usually out by 5:30-6PM) and a early morning (7:30am start time) one day per week, and an occasional Saturday rotation (approx. 1 or 2 Sats a month) all after the New Hire Probationary Period.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist them with the check-in/out process.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient records efficiently.
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries regarding services, procedures, and insurance information.
- Receives payment and records receipts for services. Posts and balances daily batch. Makes bank deposits on a daily basis.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and ensure compliance with health regulations.
- Facilitates communication to the MD through the use of in-box, voicemail, and e-mails as appropriate
- Process patient referrals and coordinate follow-up appointments as needed.
- Assist with billing inquiries and insurance verification processes.
- Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Assists with Call Center as needed/outbound calls
- Uphold a clean and organized office environment to enhance patient comfort.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial for managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to provide outstanding customer service to patients and their families.
- Proficiency in office software applications and electronic health record systems is a plus.
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year in a medical setting
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining professionalism at all times.
