Position Summary:
As a Fractional CFO/Accounting Manager, you will work with multiple clients to provide high-level financial strategy, operational finance oversight, and accounting leadership. You will play a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, managing cash flow, preparing financial forecasts, and helping clients make data-driven decisions. This role is ideal for a highly experienced financial professional who enjoys working with a variety of businesses and industries and thrives in a consultative environment. You will be getting your hands in all aspects of the accounting including cleaning up books, financial statement preparation, balance sheet recording and oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy and Leadership:
- Provide strategic financial direction and CFO-level insights to clients, aligning financial strategies with business goals.
- Collaborate with business owners and executives to improve financial performance and profitability.
- Offer advice on financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and capital structure optimization.
- Accounting Oversight and Reporting:
- Manage client accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close processes.
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
- Prepare monthly accounting such as booking transactions, reconciling the balance sheet and keeping everything up to date.
- Conduct regular financial reviews, provide variance analysis, and identify opportunities for financial improvement.
- Cash Flow and Budget Management:
- Develop and monitor cash flow forecasts and budgets for clients to ensure proper financial health and liquidity.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements where necessary.
- Risk Management and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax reporting and audit preparation.
- Identify financial risks and advise on mitigation strategies to protect client assets.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, acting as a trusted financial advisor.
- Tailor financial strategies to the unique needs of each client, offering customized solutions for growth and stability.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the firm's accounting and tax teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of financial services.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members as needed.
Additional Responsibilities as an Accounting Manager:
- Month-End and Year-End Closing:
- Lead and oversee the month-end and year-end close process for clients, ensuring all reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments are accurate and timely.
- Prepare and review trial balances, ensure all supporting documentation is complete, and present results to the CFO or leadership teams.
- Tax Compliance and Reporting:
- Collaborate with the tax department to ensure accurate and timely preparation of tax filings, including sales tax, payroll taxes, and income tax returns.
- Assist with tax planning and provide clients with guidance on how to optimize their tax strategies.
- Internal Controls:
- Establish, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard client assets and ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting.
- Regularly review and update client accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce risk of fraud or errors.
- Payroll Oversight:
- Ensure accurate processing of payroll for clients, including compliance with local, state, and federal payroll regulations.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and coordinate with HR to ensure all employee benefits and deductions are correctly accounted for.
- Financial System Implementation and Optimization:
- Assist clients in selecting, implementing, and optimizing accounting systems or ERP solutions to improve financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Provide training and support to client teams on financial software, reporting tools, and process automation.
- Audit Preparation and Support:
- Coordinate and prepare financial records for external audits or reviews, ensuring that all documentation is organized and complete.
- Serve as the main point of contact between clients and external auditors, addressing any queries and assisting in audit planning.
- Budgeting and Financial Forecasting:
- Work with clients to develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and multi-year financial plans based on operational goals and historical performance.
- Provide ongoing support with budget monitoring, adjustments, and variance analysis to help clients stay aligned with financial objectives.
- Fixed Assets Management:
- Manage and oversee the recording, depreciation, and disposal of fixed assets, ensuring accurate reporting of asset values on client financial statements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA is preferred.
- 10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, including experience as a CFO or controller.
- Proven experience in managing the finances of small and medium-sized businesses across multiple industries.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online version and ERP systems. (Financial Cents and Google Drive a plus)
- Strong communication, leadership, and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client relationships simultaneously.
- Experience working in a fractional or consulting capacity is a plus.
