Reports To

Responsibilities and Duties

Develops lesson plans and classroom learning activities

• Creates lesson plans for Science and/or Social Studies or for other subjects as they may be assigned.
• Creates lessons for and works with small student groups during intervention, as assigned by the head teacher.
• Teaches Science and/or Social Studies or other subjects as they may be assigned.
• Helps the teacher to plan and maintain bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays.

Instruction, student contact, and support

• Assists the classroom teacher in the delivery of an effective instructional program.
• Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
• Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
• Helps students’ master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
• Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Performs clerical duties related to the instructional program including attendance reports, duplication of materials, and distribution and return of notices to home.
• Helps very young students with their clothing, snack time routine, and toileting activities.
• Supervises lunch/ recess.

Professional contacts and activities

• Participates in grade level common planning meetings.
• Participates in in-service training as assigned.
• Attends all staff meetings, Parent/ Teacher Conferences, as requested, and Back to School Night.

Other

• Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
• Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education level: BA or MA or higher

Certifications and licenses as required to meet job obligations as required by the State of New Jersey and / or the U.S.
