What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Level Materials & Corrosion Engineer position at THE EQUITY ENGINEERING GROUP INC?
key Responsibilities:
- Perform corrosion reviews, materials selection and materials operating envelope development.
- Supports/performs materials lab work relating to failure analysis or remaining life assessment.
- Assists in the development of materials test facilities, test procedures and engineering standard work practices.
- Prepares and presents reports to clients relating to materials team activities.
- Provides materials engineering support for Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) processes, including fixed equipment inspection plans and piping systemization and circuitization.
- Supports FFS assessments of existing equipment using API RP 579 Fitness-for-Service (FFS).
- Support damage mechanism reviews (DMR) for new equipment and revalidations.
- Review and carry out corrosion rate assessment and prepare corrosion management documentation.
- Provide corrosion input to risk-based inspection (RBI) plans.
- Establish turnarounds and failure analysis investigations at client’s facilities by providing on-site “problem solving” support.
- Provides materials engineering support to other groups at Equity, including FFS and RBI.
- Assists in the development and presentation of training courses.
- Develop proposals for work, supports team projects, and perform other administrative job-tracking and time-keeping tasks.
- Assists with technology development related to international standards and publications. Attends and participates at industry conferences and meetings.
- Performs standard equipment modeling, computations or analysis (Code Calculations, Advanced Finite Element Analysis models, RBI calculations/inspection history grading).
- Assists with project proposal, execution and documentation.
- Assists in the writing of technical reports, validates accuracy of work as related to QA/QC program.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Corrosion Engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of applicable experience in fixed equipment and oil gas facilities with a fundamental understanding of corrosion mechanisms, inspection techniques, materials properties and repair strategies.
- Professional accreditation e.g., Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer
- Certifications in API 571, 510, 570. 570 or 580 is preferred
- AMPP certification is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates skilled knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and problem solving by applying academic experience to practical engineering problems.
- Demonstrates basic skills in assessment and design of pressure vessels, piping, tanks and structures related to industry standards (i.e. ASME/API/ASCE codes and standards and Equity Engineering Practices (EEP’S)).
- Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Office products for engineering calculations and reporting. Experience with applicable analytical software and validation of results, technical report writing, computer programming and data handling.
- Gains field experience through support role for Risk Based Inspection, piping circuitization, materials operating envelopes and shutdown support.
- Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of oil refinery processes and damage mechanisms through cross-training in the Risk Based Inspection and Materials areas.
- Gains familiarity with corporate Human Resources procedures and QA/QC policies and gains an understanding of technical accuracy requirements of work as related to quality standards.

Salary listed includes a range. Actual compensation will be based on experience.
