CNC Machine Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Franklin, Massachusetts
Pay Rate: $31.00 – $33.00 per hour
Position Overview
Our client, a medical device manufacturer, is seeking a CNC Machine Maintenance Mechanic for an onsite contract engagement in Franklin, Massachusetts, running approximately five months. The role keeps precision CNC machining equipment running to the tolerances that medical device components demand.
This position suits a maintenance professional with genuine CNC experience who understands that in precision manufacturing, machine condition and accuracy are inseparable. It offers varied hands-on work in a clean, well-run production environment.
Key Responsibilities
You will perform preventive maintenance on CNC machining centers, lathes, and related precision equipment according to schedule, including lubrication systems, way covers, ballscrews, spindles, coolant systems, filtration, and chip management.
You will diagnose and repair machine faults across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, working from schematics and manufacturer documentation to identify root cause and restore the machine to specification rather than merely to running condition.
You will support machine accuracy through alignment checks, geometry verification, backlash and compensation adjustment, and coordination of calibration activity, ensuring equipment continues to hold the tolerances required for medical device components.
You will document all maintenance and repair work accurately in the maintenance management system as required in a regulated manufacturing environment, manage spare parts requirements, follow lockout/tagout and machine safety procedures without exception, and support equipment installation and qualification activity.
You will contribute to machine reliability improvement by tracking recurring faults, recommending preventive maintenance adjustments, and identifying equipment that warrants overhaul or replacement. You will also coordinate with external service providers and OEM technicians for specialist repairs and calibration, verifying that returned equipment meets specification before it goes back into production.
Requirements
Prior maintenance experience on CNC machine tools is required, including preventive maintenance and fault diagnosis on machining centers or turning equipment.
You must have solid mechanical troubleshooting capability along with working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and the ability to read and interpret machine schematics and technical documentation.
Strict adherence to lockout/tagout and industrial safety practice is mandatory. You must supply and use standard hand tools, be able to lift heavy components and work in physically demanding positions, and be available onsite for the assigned shift including occasional extended hours during breakdowns.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in medical device, aerospace, or other precision manufacturing environments is strongly preferred, along with familiarity with documentation expectations in a regulated setting.
Manufacturer-specific training on platforms such as Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or DMG Mori is highly valued, as is CNC control system familiarity with Fanuc or Siemens, machine geometry and laser calibration experience, and completion of a maintenance or machinist apprenticeship.
Experience with Swiss-type lathes, multi-axis machining centers, or EDM equipment is highly valued in precision component manufacture. Familiarity with coolant management and filtration systems, tool changer and pallet system maintenance, and any exposure to equipment qualification protocols in a regulated environment strengthen an application.
Compensation and Benefits
This engagement pays an hourly rate in the range of $31.00 to $33.00, based on experience and demonstrated capability, across a contract of approximately five months with a defined end date.
You will work in a precision manufacturing environment with well-maintained equipment and clear standards, building CNC maintenance experience that is in consistent demand across advanced manufacturing sectors. Extension or conversion may be possible depending on performance and continued need.
This is a contract engagement placed through our recruiting team. We work closely with our contract professionals throughout the assignment, from onboarding and first-week check-ins through to end-of-contract planning, and we actively look for the next opportunity for people who deliver well.
