Position Summary: 

The Dietetic Technician (DT) plays a vital role as a member of the treatment team, by supporting clients engaged in eating disorder treatment programs. Responsibilities vary by site; at some locations, DTs balance foodservice duties with providing nutrition education to clients, alongside clinical support for registered dietitians. The Dietetic Technician may work across various levels of care and programs (e.g., PHP, IOP, RTC), in both in-person and virtual settings, and may provide coverage at other sites as needed. Flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are essential qualities for success in this role.

Schedule

Monday to Wednesday: 8:30-5:00

Thursday: 8:30-4:00

Friday: 7:30-2:30

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Facilitate assigned Therapeutic Supported Meals/Snacks (TSMs) by eating with clients, modeling normalized eating, and supporting utilization of therapeutic skills and recovery-focused behaviors.
  • Facilitate assigned nutrition groups such as culinary skills and nutrition experiential, in alignment with the Clinical Operating Manual and standardized curriculum.
  • Depending on the site and resources, the Dietetic Technician may be responsible for:
  • Managing inventory, ordering, receiving, and storing food, beverages, and supplements to meet clients’ complex dietary needs and in alignment with approved cycle menu.
  • Reviewing and labeling food per policies and regulations (allergens, portions, discard dates, etc.).
  • Coordinating with catering agencies and placing restaurant orders.
  • Setting up meals and snacks for clients and programs, ensuring dietary needs are met.
  • Assisting with menu updates alongside Nutrition Leaders or Culinary Managers.
  • Conducting kitchen audits.
  • Supporting meal plating and service according to nutrition prescriptions.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas (e.g., sanitizing counters/tables, loading/unloading dishwasher, cleaning refrigerator).
  • Keeping required food safety logs (e.g., temperatures).
  • Support the Registered Dietitian with assigned clinical tasks such as data tracking, group preparation, client orientations, growth record requests, tray/meal ticket writing, weight collection, 1:1 client portion education and menu planning.
  • Follows all regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintains at all times the confidentiality of former and current Emily Program and Veritas clients’ protected health information, as directed by state and federal law, and Emily Program and Veritas policy.
  • Always maintain the confidentiality of proprietary information, which includes but is not limited to, trade secrets, sensitive company information, and generally any company information not made available to the public.
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings, including administrative and clinical supervision, and seeks additional supervision when needed.
  • Completes all assigned mandatory training.
  • Drive clients, staff, and supplies in the company vehicle as needed.
  • Provide support across multiple levels of care and treatment programs based on site and/or regional needs and scheduling.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Dietetics from an ACEND-accredited program is preferred.
  • Candidates with an associate degree from an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Technician program may also be considered.
  • Completion of a Dietetic Internship and/or Dietetic Technician Registration (DTR) is not required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to drive.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required (American Heart Association) within 30 days from date of hire.
  • Food Handler certification from an ANSI-ANAB accredited organization (e.g., ServSafe, NRFSP, 360training) is required within 14 days of hire. Additional food safety or location-specific certifications may be required.
  • One year of experience working in a clinical, public health, or healthcare foodservice role is preferred.
  • Previous eating disorder experience is preferred.

Workplace Environment

  • Standing 60-65% and Sitting 35-40%
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping or crouching when appropriate, on occasion
  • Lift, carry, push or pull up to approx. 40 pounds (supplies, etc.)
