The Center offers state-of-the-art medical care, including diagnosis, symptom management, access to all approved disease modifying treatments, on-site infusion center and the latest clinical research trials.
Clinical Assistant
The Elliot Lewis Center is hiring a clinical assistant to work directly with patients in a clinical setting. The Center offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to MS patients, and their families and caregivers, in a warm and personalized setting. The Elliot Lewis Center is comprised of three specialized physicians, an onsite infusion center, clinical research team, and administrative staff. The Center is hoping to find someone with a substantial interest in medicine and a desire for a strong, clinical experience.
The assistant will meet with patients on arrival, take vital signs, and perform standardized MS-specific functional testing. They will assist with insurance prior authorizations, prescriptions, various administrative work, and patient support and communication. The assistant will be responsible for lab work; phlebotomy skills are a must. Additionally, the assistant will participate in bi-weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and work directly with nurses and physicians.
This position is a terrific opportunity to learn about multiple sclerosis and the practice of clinical neurology. It provides excellent exposure to a clinical practice, as well as a firm foundation in basic clinical skills, including the development of sound clinical judgment and the ability to consolidate information and synthesize a clinical problem. The ability to work well with a team is a requirement, and strongly motivated individuals are sure to have a valuable experience. Clinical experience is required. Job requires a 2 year commitment.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer functional testing for patients
- Assure patient medical record is complete prior to visit (records of lab results and MRI have been received)
- Order, draw and process lab work (phlebotomy skills required)
- Ensure lab results are received and filed appropriately
- Process prescriptions and insurance prior authorizations
- Manage numerous databases relating to patients’ demographics, treatments, symptoms, and side effects
- Act as the examining technician for research studies
Skills and Abilities Required
- BA/BS required
- Phlebotomy skills required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and physicians
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook
- Team player
- Minimum of2 year commitment
Position will teach basic patient intake skills (medication list, vital signs, phlebotomy, prescription processing and insurance authorizations). Excellent experience for those looking to pursue careers as physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants or nursing
