Founded in 2021 as a tribute to founder Cheryl Maloney's great-aunt Mary Ann, who operated an all-women restaurant in Cedar Rapids beginning in 1936, The Eat Shop has grown into a thriving bakery and café company with five locations across eastern Iowa.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Multi-Unit Operations Manager to help lead our teams, strengthen our systems, and drive business performance across all locations.
The Role
This position works directly with the founder and leadership team to ensure The Eat Shop operates efficiently, profitably, and consistently.
You will spend time in our locations, support managers, develop team members, and help create the systems and accountability necessary for continued growth.
Restaurant experience is helpful but not required. We are looking for a strong leader who understands operations, people management, financial performance, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Financial Performance
- Monitor and improve financial performance across all locations
- Review sales, labor, and operating costs to identify opportunities for improvement
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and profitability goals
- Ensure consistent execution of company standards and procedures
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard team members
- Coach managers and employees to improve performance and accountability
- Support employee development and leadership growth
- Foster a positive, team-focused culture across all locations
Human Resources & Compliance
- Maintain employee documentation and personnel records
- Support policy implementation and workplace compliance
- Address employee concerns professionally and consistently
- Partner with leadership on performance management and corrective action when necessary
Systems & Process Improvement
- Develop and improve standard operating procedures
- Identify operational challenges and implement long-term solutions
- Help create scalable systems that support future growth
- Ensure consistency across all locations
What We're Looking For
- Leadership experience managing teams and driving results
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working with budgets, labor costs, and performance metrics
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
- Experience in operations, retail management, hospitality, logistics, human resources, or similar leadership roles

Position Details
Location: Eastern Iowa (regular travel between locations in Solon, Marion, Coralville, and Iowa City)
Compensation: $50,000-$65,000 annual salary plus performance bonus
Schedule: Full-time, primarily daytime hours with flexibility as business needs require including weekends
