What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at The Eastover Clinic?
About The Eastover Clinic
The Eastover Clinic is an independent dermatology practice opening in Charlotte's Eastover neighborhood. Founded by Dr. Emily McLean, TEC is built around a simple belief: patients deserve unhurried, relationship-based care. We offer medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology in a setting that prioritizes the full picture of a patient's skin health.
This role is designed as a serious clinical opportunity for a highly motivated pre-med or pre-PA graduate; this is not a shadowing position. You will work directly with Dr. McLean across medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology from day one, gaining hands-on procedural experience and a deep understanding of how a physician-led private practice operates. A 2-year commitment is preferred. MAs who complete at least one year in good standing are eligible for a letter of recommendation from Dr. McLean.
We operate as a lean, highly collaborative team. Every team member contributes meaningfully to the patient experience and to the growth of the practice. We are looking for someone who is kind, polished, and detail-oriented; reliable and proactive; a true team player, eager to cross-train and support; and excited by the opportunity to grow with a new and evolving practice. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something from the beginning and help shape its culture.
What You'll Do
Clinical
- Room patients: obtain vitals, document chief complaint and history in the EMR
- Assist Dr. McLean with procedures including cryotherapy, biopsies, excisions, and cosmetic injections
- Set up and break down procedure trays; maintain sterile technique
- Operate and maintain the autoclave; ensure all instruments are properly sterilized
- Anticipate clinical needs and keep the day moving efficiently
Administrative
- Manage medication prior authorizations and biopsy work-flow including tracking, follow-up, and documentation
- Support front desk operations as needed, including check-in, scheduling, and phones
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EMR
- Help develop and refine clinical workflows and protocols as the practice launches and grows
- Support TEC's social media presence in collaboration with Dr. McLean — content creation, scheduling, and engagement
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree; pre-med or pre-PA track strongly preferred
- Genuine interest in dermatology and in physician-led, relationship-based care
- Clinical experience a plus (scribe, CNA, MA, research, shadowing) — but not required; we will train the right person
- MA certification (CMA/RMA) not required
- Meticulous attention to detail in documentation and sterile technique
- Calm and composed in a fast-moving clinical environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable with ambiguity — this is a new practice and things will evolve
- 2-year commitment preferred; letters of recommendation available to MAs who complete at least 18 months in good standing
Details
- Full-time, guaranteed 32 hours per week; up to 40 hours depending on scheduling, on-site in Eastover, Charlotte NC
- Clinic schedule is being finalized, but we anticipate approximately 2 early mornings (starting 7am) and 2 later afternoons (finishing at 6pm) per week, with approximately 2 Saturday mornings per month (9am–12pm). Fridays off. Schedule subject to change as the practice grows.
