Construction Estimator
The Dow Company – Dracut, Massachusetts Full-Time | Immediate Opening
Founded in 1904, Dow Company is a family-owned heavy civil construction firm experiencing sustained growth throughout New England. We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Estimator to join our preconstruction team and play a key role in securing and shaping the future of our commercial and public sitework projects.
Position Overview The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for sitework, excavation, utilities, earthwork, and related heavy-civil scopes. This position offers significant visibility and the opportunity to influence project outcomes from the bidding stage through award.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop detailed cost estimates for sitework, excavation, underground utilities, and earthwork
· Perform quantity takeoffs and thoroughly review plans, specifications, and contract documents
· Identify project risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities
· Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations
· Utilize industry-standard platforms including B2W Estimate, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Procore, Bluebeam Revu, and InSite Elevation Pro
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and owners during design development and pre-bid phases
· Prepare bid packages, pricing narratives, and supporting documentation
· Monitor labor, equipment, and material pricing trends to maintain competitive positioning
Qualifications Required
· 1–3 years of estimating experience specific to heavy civil sitework and excavation
· Proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software
· Strong knowledge of earthwork, underground utilities, and site improvements
· Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
· Proven capability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
Preferred
· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
· Experience with public-sector, private, or negotiated bid delivery methods
· Familiarity with Massachusetts and New England heavy-civil market conditions
