The Assistant Director of Sector Training & Employment Services provides leadership for the workforce components of the Advance & Earn Plus program, serving young adults ages 17–24 with current or past involvement with the ACS foster care or juvenile justice systems. The Assistant Director oversees workforce curriculum design, digital literacy integration, employer engagement, internship coordination, credential instruction, job placement strategies, and partnerships with sector-based training providers. The role ensures that all workforce programming is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and aligned with emerging career pathways in the green economy and other growing sectors, with a strong focus on building the emerging skills and digital competencies young people need to succeed in a rapidly evolving workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies and partnerships that support participants in achieving credential attainment and job placement targets.

  • Build and expand employer and internship pipelines, especially within the green economy, building operations, construction, maintenance, and related sectors.

  • Stay informed about trends across the green economy and other workforce sectors; represent The Door at employer and workforce convenings.

  • Oversee workforce curriculum, including work readiness, digital literacy, financial literacy, and credential preparation, with an emphasis on integrating certifications and emerging technology-driven skills needed in a rapidly evolving labor market.

  • Integrate digital literacy as a core workforce competency and oversee digital literacy assessments to support measurable skills gains.

  • Provide participant-facing support as needed to address barriers affecting workforce engagement.

  • Coordinate closely with Solar One and future training providers to support effective communication, day-to-day alignment, and strong integration between training and workforce programming.

  • Supervise workforce staff through supportive, strengths-based leadership; promote staff growth and high-quality instructional practice.

  • Support program recruitment, enrollment, and maintenance of participant records and workforce documentation.

  • Oversee workforce-related data entry and reporting in both internal and funder systems.

  • Contribute to program strategy and planning with program leadership.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, counseling, public policy, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.

  • 3–5 years of experience in youth development, workforce development, education, or related human services fields.

  • Experience supporting young adults with foster care or juvenile justice involvement strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of employer engagement and sector-based workforce trends; prior workforce experience in related sectors preferred.

  • Experience facilitating work readiness or digital literacy instruction, including comfort supporting young people in learning new and emerging digital tools.

  • Strong grounding in positive youth development and trauma-informed practice.

  • Experience supervising staff and supporting professional development.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Comfort with data systems, outcome tracking, and learning new digital tools.

  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and commitment to continuous improvement.
