Position Summary
The Dolsen Companies Controller is a key leadership role responsible for the accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting across The Dolsen Companies, Ag-related entities, and real estate holdings (excluding Coca-Cola, DC Vending, and Aurora Beverage Company business units). Reporting to the CFO, this position oversees multi-entity financial consolidations, leads the annual review and tax preparation process, supports budgeting, forecasting, and business intelligence activities. The Dolsen Companies Controller will carry supervisory responsibilities and collaborate closely with the Coca-Cola Controller.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and fixed assets.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Maintain and enhance internal control systems across multiple entities.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
Financial Reporting & Consolidations
- Prepare and review internal financial statements and consolidated reports.
- Manage intercompany eliminations and equity method investments as applicable.
- Analyze financial results and provide variance explanations.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of financial data across multiple entities.
- Support external auditors during annual reviews and tax preparation.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist the CFO in developing annual budgets and long-term forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide insights.
- Collaborate with department heads to align financial plans with operational goals.
Banking & Debt Administration
- Manage online banking platform access and user permissions across entities.
- Administer corporate credit card program, including issuance and limits.
- Prepare and submit debt covenant compliance reporting to lenders.
Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate with external CPA firms on tax filings and compliance.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax returns and related documentation.
- Oversee state and local tax reporting obligations across all applicable jurisdictions.
- Monitor and manage third-party and regulatory compliance reporting requirements.
- Support administration of company insurance programs in coordination with relevant vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA license and/or public accounting experience preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems.
- Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany transactions.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., D365 Business Central) and Excel.
- Comfortable working with sensitive financial information and maintaining strict confidentiality in a private, family-owned business environment.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of organizations to build strong working relationships.
