Job Summary
Seeking a passionate and skilled dog trainer to join our team. Our focus is on delivering excellent training to pups, but also transferring our training skills to pup parents, since once lessons are done, pup parents need the skills to continue training and encouraging their pups for their lifetime. A lot of what we do is support and coach pup parents.

We rely on the integrity of folks who care about dogs and work well with people.

The ideal candidate will have two years of dog-training experience and one year of e-collar experience.

This role requires following our standard training protocol but there is some flexibility to address specific needs of clients. It also requires ensuring the safety of dogs in our care.

A commitment to positive reinforcement techniques and a love for animals is essential.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional dog training experience.
  • At least 1 year of professional e-collar training experience.
  • Proven experience in dog handling, training, or related fields such as pet care or veterinary assistance is a plus but not mandatory.
  • The ability and willingness to learn, adapt to, and adopt The Dog Wizard training protocol.
  • A strong understanding of canine behavior and psychology is essential for success in this role.
  • Willingness, interest, and ability to train a wide variety of dogs—from puppies to seniors and across breeds.
  • Experience in Behavior Modification (preferred).
  • Desire to learn and be able to adapt to different dog/family situations.
  • Ability to be a team player as client dynamics evolve.
  • Willingness to train a personal dog (if you have one) as a demo dog for potential clients using The Dog Wizard North Shore approved methods.
  • Interest in being a team leader to grow and excel.
  • Communication skills to aid in sales and team development.
  • Ability to complete an introductory online learning course by a specific deadline.
  • Live in territory (Park Ridge to Lake Forest), or willing to commute to the designated territories to work with clients.
  • Qualified to legally work in the state of Illinois.

Responsibilities

  • Follow The Dog Wizard North Shore training protocol with the ability to tailor programs to pups and their pup parents as needed.
  • Conduct one-on-one training sessions as well as group classes.
  • Be available to provide support classes to existing and future clients twice per month in spring and summer months. Classes are typically held on Saturdays.
  • Assess each client pup’s behavior and develop training plans.
  • Create strategies for pup improvement consistent with client requests and the Dog Wizard training protocol.
  • Identify specific issues and problem-solve to address challenges.
  • Monitor each pup’s training progress and reassess training plans as the program progresses.
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions and progress.
  • Provide guidance and homework to dog owners on training plans.
  • Update clients on training progress through phone, email and daily updates on social media.
  • Assist in maintaining client relationships.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for both dogs and clients.
  • Communicate effectively with the team about inventory supplies, training needs of the dogs and basic canine medical understanding.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining community relationships by attending events, scheduling lunch and learns with dog-related businesses, and building brand awareness by training in the community.
  • Engage in ongoing education to stay current with dog training techniques and animal behavior.
