Our flagship Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) program provides paid transitional work experience, transitional housing, advanced occupational training, and comprehensive supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Doe Fund is also one of New York City’s largest nonprofit developers of permanent affordable and supportive housing, with more than 1,900 units in operation or pre-development. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $80 million and a full-time staff of nearly 500, a significant portion of whom are graduates of our programs. 

We are currently seeking a Senior Housing Specialist to join our growing team at 510 Gates Avenue in Brooklyn. This position will supervise 2 Housing Specialists and report to the Director of Housing Placements. This senior role often involves mentoring housing staff and handling complex cases.


Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide supervision and management of 2 Housing Specialists.
  • Maintain a caseload (min of 20)
  • Provides direction and guidance that aligns with the organizational mission and housing placement goals.
  • Provides guidance, training, mentorship, and technical assistance to Housing Specialists.
  • Monitor caseloads, housing placement activities, and performance metrics to ensure program goals and housing targets are achieved.
  • Review housing applications, case records, and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Lead team meetings, case conferences, workshops, and housing strategy initiatives.
  • Conduct housing assessments and develop individualized housing plans that address client needs, barriers, and eligibility requirements.
  • Assist clients in securing permanent housing through rental assistance programs, supportive housing, affordable housing opportunities, and public housing resources.
  • Coordinate housing searches, apartment viewings, lease signings, and housing appointments.
  • Guide clients through subsidy applications and documentation requirements, including CityFHEPS, FHEPS, SOTA, and other housing programs and submit housing packages.
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up to promote housing stability and successful tenancy.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, brokers, property managers, housing providers, and community partners.
  • Expand housing opportunities and advocate for clients to overcome barriers to housing placement.
  • Maintain current knowledge of housing resources, subsidy programs, DHS policies, and housing regulations.
  • Maintain accurate client records and data within agency databases and tracking systems.
  • Prepare reports, analyze housing outcomes, and recommend strategies to improve program effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies, contractual requirements, and NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) regulations.
  • Facilitate housing readiness workshops, peer support groups, and educational sessions focused on housing stability, tenant responsibilities, employment retention, financial literacy, and life skills.
  • Promote client engagement and participation in housing and workforce development services.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned. 


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in housing placement, case management, or human services, preferably working with homeless or vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of NYC housing programs and subsidies, including CityFHEPS, HPD Section 8, HRA housing applications, SOTA, EOSD, and supportive housing.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Bilingual (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license (preferred).
