Artistic Design Coordinator – The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier Binghamton, New York

The Discovery Center is committed to creating an environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being of children through education, participatory exhibits, and programs.

The Artistic Design Coordinator is a full-time position, reporting to the Executive Director. The position is responsible for building strong relationships with artists and ensuring The Discovery Center Exhibits, both indoors and outdoors, look fresh, appealing, and current. This position works as an artist painting exhibits as well as working to create exhibit designs and renderings in a range of digital formats. The Artistic Design Coordinator works to inspire children and encourage creativity, imagination, and curiosity using visual arts.

The ideal candidate will be creative, can multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines. This position requires a talented artist who paints, draws and designs using multiple mediums. The coordinator position requires strong communication skills and expert team collaboration, with the ability to visually represent ideas.

The Discovery Center provides an artist studio for painting, fabrication and computer assisted design.

Position Description/Responsibilities

The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier seeks an Artistic Design Coordinator to:

instill the value of arts and culture in our programs, exhibits and events.

create museum exhibits for children that celebrate diversity and build ethnic awareness.

plan exhibits and complete renderings of new exhibit designs.

generate ideas, concept development, sketching, and making models.

paint exhibit displays, artifacts and signage.

maintain contacts and build partnerships with local artists and artistic agencies.

design exhibits and collaborate with teams and sponsors to meet their expectations.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Human Services, Education, or a related field
  • Experienced artist specializing in painting, drawing and digital design (portfolio required)
  • A strong interest in promoting the arts
  • Expert skills with Google, Microsoft, social media, and Canva or other graphic design tools

Compensation

$19-$21 per hour

Schedule

  • 35 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed for special events
