Facilities/ Maintenance Staff- Per Diem

This is a per diem position! There are no set or guaranteed hours. Night and weekend hours are often available.

Position Summary:

Under the general, technical, and administrative supervision of the Director of Facilities, and in accordance with The Derryfield School’s established policies and procedures, the facilities per diem staff may perform cleaning duties to ensure a healthy, safe and attractive school environment, light maintenance and grounds maintenance, provide event supervision or support transportation services.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Performs basic cleaning duties, which may include some of the following actions (not an exhaustive list):
• vacuuming areas as needed with a backpack vacuum
• dusting or washing of chairs, desks, tables, room surfaces
• maintaining floors, including floor finishing and floor machine operation
• removing trash
• cleaning bathrooms
• maintaining secured building, following opening and closing procedures
• Operates motor vehicles, motorized equipment, grounds and snow removal equipment.
• Follows all safety instructions in usage of supplies, equipment and machinery; wears appropriate personal protective gear; maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.
• Performs light maintenance work, which may include (not an exhaustive list):
• a) painting
• b) removing snow from sidewalks, entrances and exits
• c) landscaping, planting flowers, shrubs, mowing, weed trimming
• d) event set up and breakdown
• Event supervision for athletic facility rentals, following the event supervisor protocol.
• Assist with periodic transportation needs driving a 14 passenger mini bus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Working knowledge of cleaning procedures.
• Working knowledge of safety precautions in the use of all equipment and supplies.
• Ability to use cleaning tools.
• Ability to operate a transportation vehicle in a safe and economical manner, knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record.
• G.E.D. or high school diploma.
• Occasional overtime required for certain School activities; overtime may be mandatory, especially if called in for an emergency.

Physical and psychological demands:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance from another team member using appropriate lifting practices.
• Must be physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks, and capable of consistently functioning well in a fast-paced environment.
• Must have a strong commitment to, and ability to execute superior customer service.
• Must be able to accept critical feedback and direction in a professional manner.
