Job Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking an experienced Certified Professional Coder as the Coding Coordinator in the Department. Reporting to the Director Revenue Cycle, the Coding Coordinator will provide coding, compliance and revenue cycle support to the physician practice.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for coding surgical and daily encounters.
- Responsible for task associated with all billable activities for the practice.
- Perform ongoing analysis of medical records for compliance.
- Research and respond to insurance coding requests.
- Assist with claim issues, including preparing coding appeals.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures related to coding, denials and charge corrections.
- Generate reports to monitor/analyze the types of errors and their frequency.
- Review and analyze denials and reach out to payers in an attempt to settle accounts.
- Act as a point of escalation and monitor supervisory and secondary work queues.
- Responsible for resolving edits on high dollar accounts and non-covered procedures.
- Perform billing compliance audits for the department.
- Provide coding education and support to the physicians and staff.
- Responsible for reconciliation reports.
- Perform other job duties as required and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
- CPC required
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Must be a motivated individual with a positive attitude and exceptional work ethic.
- Ability to follow through, work independently, and handle tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to set priorities and exercise appropriate judgment.
- Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and follow through on the completion of projects in a timely manner is essential.
- Functional knowledge of basic computer operation and keyboard functions.
- Well versed in the following applications: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Ophthalmology experience preferred
- Epic experience preferred
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $64,350.00 - $75,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
