The Associate Teacher Program at The Dalton School provides a unique opportunity for early-career educators to develop their teaching skills by working closely with experienced mentors in a collaborative, progressive setting. We seek a Science Associate Teacher with experience teaching science to young children and implementing an inquiry-based, experiential curriculum. The ideal candidate will work closely with a Head Teacher and the K-12 Science Department, demonstrating strong communication skills, a passion for working with children, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Head Teacher in all aspects of classroom instruction and organization.
- Plan and lead small-group and whole-class lessons.
- Assess and document student progress to support individualized learning.
- Support classroom management and daily routines to create a structured, engaging learning environment.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and an awareness of the diverse backgrounds, identities, and learning styles within the school community.
- Participate in and contribute to the broader school community, including supervising lunch, recess, and dismissal duties.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or current enrollment in a graduate program) in Early Childhood or Elementary Science Education preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a Science-related field required.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in a school setting.
- Strong understanding of and appreciation for progressive education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in writing.
- Experience writing student progress reports preferred.
- Strong technology proficiency and ability to learn new tools quickly.
- Strong organizational and executive functioning skills.
- A growth mindset and eagerness to learn from and with colleagues.
- A positive, energetic approach with a sense of humor.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural competency.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities.
