Job Purpose:
The Welding Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in welding and metal fabrication as part of the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program. The teacher will prepare students with the technical skills, safety knowledge, and industry certifications needed for careers in welding and related trades.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with Georgia CTAE Welding Pathway standards
- Teach welding techniques including SMAW, GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and cutting processes
- Emphasize and enforce proper shop safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., AWS certifications)
- Develop hands-on lab experiences that simulate real-world welding environments
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and competencies
- Manage and maintain welding equipment, tools, and lab facilities
- Collaborate with local industry partners for student opportunities (internships, apprenticeships, guest speakers)
- Participate in CTSO activities such as SkillsUSA
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
- Contribute to the overall function and success of the school through collaboration with faculty, participation in school initiatives, and support of a positive school culture
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate in CTAE Welding and Joining Technology (or eligibility to obtain)
- Demonstrated experience in welding and metal fabrication
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and practices
- Ability to manage a classroom/lab environment effectively
- Strong technical welding skills across multiple processes
- Ability to instruct and supervise students in a lab/shop setting
Preferred Qualification:
- American Welding Society (AWS) certification
- Prior teaching or training experience
- Experience working with high school-aged students
- Industry work experience in welding or manufacturing
