Sector Research Analyst (Denver)

OVERVIEW:

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a highly motivated research analyst to join its Fundamental Equities (FE) team, specializing in the internet and technology industries. As part of the team, this research analyst will partner closely with an FE investment analyst to deliver high-quality sector insights, maintain critical analytical models, and build the firm's understanding of competitive and market dynamics. The position provides a platform to develop deep sector expertise, expand research coverage over time, and collaborate within a collegial, engaging environment that values intellectual rigor and curiosity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

You’ll join a dynamic environment, contributing to our efforts in advancing GAI capabilities. Potential areas of focus include:

• Support the investment analyst by conducting research on select internet and technology companies, analyzing market positioning, and tracking major industry KPIs.
• Maintain and update a subset of company and industry models, perform internal due diligence, and prepare research summaries to inform investment analysis.
• Focus on deep dives and diligence questions, acting as an internal consultant to help the team assess business fundamentals.
• Over time, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your coverage and manage research on additional companies or sectors more independently.
  
  

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in any field of study is required; at least two years of experience in finance, consulting, private equity, or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated analytical skills and a keen interest in internet and technology sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Intellectual curiosity and the ability to manage multiple research projects in a dynamic environment.
• Solid analytical capabilities and a passion for in-depth industry and company research.
• The expected annual base salary for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
