What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entrepreneur in Residence position at The D. E. Shaw Group?
OVERVIEW:
A new venture of the D. E. Shaw group (“DESCO”) seeks talented and highly motivated individuals to join its Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program as part of our DESCOvery initiative. DESCOvery is DESCO’s venture studio. It explores unique opportunities to build out innovative, non-asset management technology-oriented businesses and ventures in areas such as fintech, insurtech, and data and the EIR will help us explore such opportunities. DESCOvery operates inside an established, highly creative, and entrepreneurial firm, where we ideate and incubate new business ideas in a collegial working environment.
WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
Participants in the program will join the firm as full-time employees for approximately six months. During that time, they’ll be responsible for proposing, researching, and preparing plans for new business ideas. Promising ideas will move to the execution stage and will be backed by the firm, and the EIR will be expected to play a lead role in executing these ideas.

- Candidates should have a proven ability to generate, research, and lead ventures, along with domain knowledge in fintech, insurtech, and data analytics.
- Creative idea-generators with excellent critical thinking, analytical, execution, and communication skills are highly sought after.
- Superb team-building and teamwork capabilities are required.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $175,000 to $250,000.
