What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instrument Repair Technician position at The CREW Corporation?
This position serves a local pharmaceutical company, and it is as secure as most direct-hire positions. Three of the CREW Technician positions supporting this department have been contracted for more than 13 years, a fourth position was contracted in 2022, and CREW filled a fifth long-term Technician position in 2023. The current position is open because the CREW contractor was offered a direct position. Note: although it does happen, getting a direct-hire position is very rare!
As part of your service in this position to various internal pharmaceutical lab customers, you will be working on your own with minimal oversight, working with your hands to maintain and repair chromatography instruments, and working in computer applications to test and track repairs.
The CREW Technicians serving in these positions perform scheduled maintenance as well as repairs on lab instruments at a pharmaceutical company located in downtown Indianapolis. The ideal candidate will have mechanical repair experience and aptitude, and/or electrical repair experience and aptitude. They will be able to follow highly defined procedures, validate the success of the repairs using computer program(s), and have a strong customer service aptitude -- the CREW Technicians serve our customers. Experience with chromatography instruments will be an added benefit, but familiarity with chromatography instruments is not required.
Every CREW Technician who has worked in this role has loved it! Each Technician works on his/her own within various labs to maintain and repair the instruments, communicating instrument status to the lab personnel throughout the process. The team of Technicians (8 total, five of whom are CREW employees) is collaborative and supportive when any challenges arise, helping one another fix the problems when needed. Each Technician is expected to complete at least two instrument PMs per week and help with repair work as possible. The schedule is flexible -- no defined start or stop time. All Technicians work consistent schedules Monday through Friday during the day, arriving at roughly the same time and leaving at roughly the same time every day -- as works best for each.
