Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA/COTA)
Position Overview
The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA/COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide direct therapy services to students. The OTA supports students in developing motor, sensory, self-regulation, and daily living skills that promote independence and success in school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver occupational therapy services as directed by the supervising OT.
Support students in achieving IEP goals through individualized and group sessions.
Implement therapy activities focused on sensory integration, fine/gross motor skills, and self-help abilities.
Collect and record accurate student progress data.
Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, and other support staff to ensure consistent program implementation.
Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and other service providers.
Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging therapy environment.
Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
License: Current California OTA license (required)
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, or related field preferred
Experience:
Minimum 2 years working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities
At least 1 year of pediatric occupational therapy experience
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of child development and sensory processing
Excellent communication and organization skills
Ability to collect and analyze progress data
Collaborative team player with a positive, flexible attitude
Comfortable working in active, hands-on environments
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 25-40 lbs and engage in physical activities such as standing, walking, kneeling, and occasional running.
Ability to safely support students who may exhibit challenging behaviors (Safety-Care certification provided by the school).
Salary : $53,000 - $85,000
