What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Dean position at The Covenant School?
Job Summary
The purpose of the Academic Dean position is to provide academic leadership for the entire school, K-12, ensuring that curriculum, instruction, and assessment align with the values of TCS and are focused on the formation of students. The Academic Dean will actively seek to partner with both teachers and parents (home day teachers) by building strong relationships and consistently gathering targeted feedback. The Academic Dean reports to the Head of School and serves on the school’s Senior Leadership Team.
Qualifications Required:
- Mature, committed walk with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ; agreement with the school’s Mission Statement and philosophy.
- A passion for the formation of students and teachers, along with a relational approach to leadership.
- A humble and prayerful spirit of discernment and the ability to listen well and engage thoughtfully with challenging issues and situations.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a content-rich discipline or Educational Leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in administration and management of organizations/people.
- Thorough understanding of (or willingness to be trained in) classical Christ-centered education.
- Professional and personal references demonstrating Godly character and spiritual maturity.
- Agreement to attend a classical education conference within two years of hire and at least every third year thereafter.
- If applicable, administrator’s children should attend The Covenant School unless extenuating circumstances are approved by the Head of School.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Three or more years in a leadership role.
- Classical, Christ-centered teaching experience.
- Familiarity with the history and mission of The Covenant School and hybrid/collaborative/University-Model education
- A love for Jesus, family, others, and learning.
- A passion for the formation of students and teachers, along with a relational approach toleadership.
- A humble and prayerful spirit of discernment and the ability to listen well and engagethoughtfully with challenging issues and situations.
- Previous leadership experience in a:
- Christ-centered school
- classical school
- University-Model School/Hybrid/Collaborative school.
Responsibilities
- Modeling a joy of learning and love for the Lord.
- Leading the Academic Team to align curriculum and pedagogy with the mission, vision ,and values of TCS.
- Overseeing the scope, sequence, and scheduling for K–12.
- Facilitating professional development and teacher evaluation, in partnership with the Principals.
- Working with the department heads to onboard and train new teachers
- Coaching teachers in matters of classroom management and teaching methods.
- Learning from other Christ-centered and collaborative schools
